Well I've been looking in to set of figures for few days, I have another one fallschirm jager set but this is dragon monte caino set.. trying to figure out how to join both of them on one dio.. but that is imposible without serious surgery on one or another set of figures so.... figures are here but what about scenery?? lot's of search all over web, books even videos but no good inspiration.. to make scenery like shown on box or to build a greek house while paras aproaching it was to simple or even seen before.. so I accidentally found some pictures of graveyard at Maleme and idea was there

Cheers
Robert

Robert. How about fixing them walking up and away from view into some ruins and the paras and ruins painted in grays. Kind of like an old photo or grayish swirls dissapering into the yonder.

I am thinking about that option.. I think painting in gray shades needs lots of skills and my painting skills are not so good ...so I will think about it little bit more.. On picture, past and present is divided by stone wall horizontaly and I am thinking to correct it to diagonal perspective.. so the mayor part of wall is new and smaller part on the right side is old and right part of graveyard would be plain meadow with grass and maybe small tree..

Anyway , I'm not rushing in to execution of this project and any suggestions are wellcome

Cheers
Robert

How about this:
If you're working with 4 figures, you're making 3 graves and beside those graves is an old man standing?

Now thats an idea Robert.
You could title the diorama, 'Traenen fuer meine kamaraden' (Tears for my comrades) or
'Erinnerungen von meinen kamaraden' (Memories of my comrades).

I agree with this, that sounds very good! That makes me thoughtful!

A correction for the title: "Traenen fuer meine Kameraden" and "Erinnerungen an meine Kameraden". Hope this helps. (the "ue" and "ae" is also written using another letter - "ä" and "ü" instead of the "ae" and "ue")
My name also have one of this types. (but its readable for all, using the oe-variant)

greetings...

Apologies for the spelling of my 'kameraden' that was my fault, i knew about the alternative letters for 'ae' and 'ue' but i dont have them on my keyboard
If you can think of any other titles for the dio and want them translated just let me know.. my partner is German.

No problem with the letters!
For this reason I don´t use them for "international" mails in my name too.
No, I think "Erinnerungen an meine Kameraden" would be the best!
I have no personal memories, but my father should not read that better.

a memorial to the facist nazi that killed and hunted the crete people like dogs? the nazi were very bad in crete and why can you not remember the british, canda and anzac troops? much more tasteful.

facist paratroopers were some of the most nasty soldiers of the war.

bad taste

Well, I agree with almost everything you said. Memorial site at Maleme is a fact , it's there for many years,I didn't build it. I'm just trying to make interesting vignete without any political or racial premise. I'm not building memorial for german paras trying to glorify them . One thing that i don't understand is why is there people who is looking to this hobby trough political perspective..
If I choose to build dio of german defensive position at Normandy somebody will comment that those germans killed 20000 allyed soldiers and that is bad taste.. Somebody should write to all manufacturers to stop producing figures of german forces because there is no evidence that no one of them didn't commit war crime...
Hope You can undrestand what I mean.. this is nice hobby and I would like to treat it as such , without mixing politics in it, we all know what happened in ww2 and maybe there is few idiots who will try to negate it but I'm not one of them...

Cheers
Robert

Neinmonia. Your input in threads is as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. Zilch.
We model war ... all countries ... all eras .. but manage to keep it non-political.
If one decides to model WW2 German subjects, does not mean that they are glorifying them .. its telling a story, its modelling, its art. Its also war ... and each and every soldier and vehicle depicted in scale could be seen in bad taste, depending on the viewer. Glass houses and stones come to mind.

I agree with you, Robert!
I was not sure, how and what to write to the comment from neinmonia.
Also my own build-project is not an in action scene.

Some time ago, I found pictures of an WW1-dio. The whole scene was covered with dead soldiers and blood. Not everyone´s taste.

greetings...

Ok, after interesting previous posts I have started with preparatory actions...made three stone crosses, printed three grave stones with names of actual paras..and begin with old stone wall section...(with which I'm not quite satisfied) of course it just a interim setup

Any constructive advice is welcome !!

Cheers
Robert

What a blind an idiotic comment to post!
This is a modelling site not a political shoutbox, we model vehicles and figures of ALL nations. Yes the Nazis did commit atrocities all over the world during WW2 as did soldiers of many other nations.
90% of my models are German WW2 vehicles and figures, many of them SS. Does that make me a nazi sympathiser or supporter? NO!.. I do them because that is my interest.
I wonder if you would make the same comments if the subject of the diorama had been based around the Soviets of the same era. Lets not forget how many people were murdered and sent to Siberian gulags by Stalins angels.
Rant over...

Stalin was no better he was too an evil man. Soviets defend their homeland.

My point exactly!! Although the wholesale murder of innocent civilians across the East of Europe is hardly defending their homeland is it?
Now can we please get off this subject that you brought about and use this website for what it was intended.. Modelling, not 70 year old politics

I look forward to see more progress on this topic, very interesting, original and refreshing too. The layout looks great, I like the way you built up the stone wall.

Are you planning to do something with the soldiers ? For example : make them look like ghosts by painting them in greyish tones maybe ?

Will there be visitors involved ? They can add a lot of effect.

Neinmonia : stop it, please ?

Cheers ! Guy
