Introduction

Porsche 911 4, item 038638, is a new model from Herpa. Herpa and Porsche have renewed their partnership to make models in 1/43 (O scale) and HO (1/87). Herpa is miniaturizing Porsche 911 models including Carrera Coupes, a Carerra S Cabriolet and the Carerra Cabriolet. The Model

Herpa's 911 is one of 119 Porsche models Herpa catalogues, as well as 75 911s, and 72 Coupés. This new model is factory assembled. It features fine recessed and raised lines, as appropriate. Distortion-free clear plastic simulates the windows.

The model is beautifully molded and free of flash, mold marks, and glue smears. The body plastic is glassy smooth. It has rubber-plastic composite tires.

Detail

Herpa uses clear and tinted clear lenses for the headlights and brake lights. Side mirrors are attached, as is a rear view mirror inside the cabin. That cabin is very detailed with thin seats, dash board, consoles, and a steering wheel. Speaking of wheels, only the edges of the low profile tires have any tread detail.

It looks like the body is assembled by snapping it to the chassis. Crisply defined grille and window trim are surrounded by openings in the car body. Dual exhausts poke out from under the rear bumper.

Sharply detailed rims hold the tires. But there is virtually no detail on the underside.

Finish

It appears that each component of this model is molded in color. Only the Porsche emblem and logo are painted on. The body color is rhodiumsilber metallic / rhodium silver metallic. The finish is excellent.

This 911 is a striking model!

Conclusion

Judging by this model, Herpa has created and released an excellent new HO scale series of Porsche 911s. The excellent finish compliments the quality molding and surface detail. The clear lenses and attached mirrors enhances the molded detail. The interior is exceptional.

My minor criticism is the lack of meaningful detail under the car.

This new HO Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is very detailed and expertly molded and assembled. It should enhance any model railroad layout or 1/87 diorama. Recommended.
