The K-2SO is a Class 4 type Military and Security function droid. These highly intelligent droids were a designed KX-series security enforcer task droid manufactured by Arakyd Industries, on the home world planet of Vulpter, for use in the Galactic Empire’s armed forces and usually assigned to assist Imperial Stormtroopers.
These droids stood at 2.16 meters (7.1 feet) in height, and with a few exceptions were generally black in color with exposed reinforced non-magnetic machined metallic like alloys of various compositions for the ankle, knee, finger, wrist and elbow servo joints including the lower torsos side frames and shoulder rings. The soft white lighted photoreceptor sensors for sighted viewing on the head, along with the few panel lamps on the front and back of the torso, help in breaking up the overall dark appearance of these droids. The general humanoid like skeletal structure, with its longer arms, are covered with black plated high impact light weight composite panels designed to protect the droid against most small arms ballistic and bladed edged weapons. However, a well-placed hit by a very high powered plasma or laser blast weapon could render the droids active computing mobility control system useless.
The intentionally programmed emotionless logic computer is located in the head along with the droids voice vocabulator for communicating in various protocols. These droids for the most part were usually unarmed and could be easily shut down in an emergency. Production data, modifications, and series build blocks for this type of droid is classified.
The kit contents: Three individually cellophane wrapped plastic sprue trees with a choice of either stickers or water slide decals and a vinyl sprue, including a pamphlet style instruction manual, come enclosed in a small overall black two piece compact carton, depicting the Star Wars Rogue One, reprogrammed imperial droid, K-2SO character on the box art.
My example came with the water slide decals enclosed with sprue tree A and stickers enclosed with sprue tree B. The third sprue tree containing the display base came with the vinyl sprue. Sprue tree A contains all of the different colored sprue sections including black, metallic dark gray, light gray and the clear parts. The remaining sprue trees are colored in black with the vinyl sprue in very dark gray. All of the parts are crisply molded and flash free and none of the parts have any ejection pin release marking on the appearance side.
The figure is possible with articulated arms, legs, torso, head, feet and comes with optional interchangeable finger parts including an articulated thumb. No weapons are included with the kit. The display base has an opening for a tile with an optional hole for a supporting rod that attaches to the back of the droid on one side or a foot clamp on the other side. The base can also be attached together with other like scale Bandai Star Wars figure kits. The kit appears to be a press fit assembly kit but you have the option of using cement and filler to create seamless joints where needed.
The 10 section pamphlet fold-out instruction manual guides you through 6 assembly steps for the head, upper and lower torso, right and left side of the droids arms, legs, feet, hands and the display base. The final section is for decal or sticker placement and a color guide for painting the figure should you wish to do so.
