Introduction
Hunchback & Beautiful Girl is a new themed figure set from NOCH. Scaled to HO, it is item 15802. It also has a philanthropic inspiration as NOCH is donating part of the sale to rebuild Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral.

NOCH tells us:
The Figures Set "Hunchback & Beautiful Girl" in scale H0 (scale 1:87) contains three model figures – a beautiful young lady, a priest and a a hunchback man. Additionally the set includes three gargoyles. We managed to develop the gargoyles as realistic as possible – true to the original of the cathedral Notre-Dame.

These Figures fit perfectly into sceneries according to the well-known fairy tale as e.g. churches, chapels or even ruins.

The fire in the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral in April 2019 was a shock for all of Europe. Based on this incident, we have developed the Figures Set “Hunchback & Beautiful Girl”. Part of the sales proceeds will be donated for the reconstruction of the cathedral.

The Set
When I first saw this set in the recent NOCH catalogue, I had to have it. The six figures remind me of my wedding - a beautiful girl, a clergyman to marry us, and me - represented by any of the other four figures. But I digress.

The figures are well scaled to HO/1:87 with good proportions, crisp molding, no flash, ejector marks, or noticeable mold seam lines. Three figures, gypsy Esmeralda, Quasimodo and Archdeacon Claude Frollo, are nicely sculpted. Esmeralda is posed lively and holds a tambourine. Quasimodo is posed hunched over and grasping something, and Frollo is shuffling along. Each gargoyle is modeled after a different sculpture and very well done.

Detail and Painting
These HO scale faces and hands have minimal detail but the clothes are well rendered. Most of the detail comes from painting: Frollo's crucifix and chain around his neck; Quasimodo's shabby clothes with floppy cuffs and rips and tears; Esmeralda's colorful garb and tambourine.

I am curious to see if a wash will bring out facial detail. NOCH sells these models pre-painted to a basic level so do not be disappointed by the lack of highlights and shadows.

Conclusion
Hunchback & Beautiful Girl should be a popular product for NOCH, I believe. As noted by NOCH it can be used in many ways.

The figures feature crisp molding, detail, and are well painted. I can't think of anything meaningful to criticize.

Yes, I am happy with this set and look forward to populating my layout with it. As such, I recommend Hunchback & Beautiful Girl.

Please remember to mention to NOCH and retailers that you saw this set here - on RailRoad Modeling.
