Eduard have released a set of Brassin exhausts for their superb new-tool 1:48 kit of the Spitfire Mk.I.

Arriving in a simple ziplock bag on a cardboard backing, the resin parts are designed as direct replacements for the kit items, with no surgery required to install them. As I've come to expect with Brassin sets, the casting is essentially flawless. Preparation for will be simplicity itself, with very light casting attachments on each part and just a whisper of flash to remove.

As I noted in the review linked above, the original kit exhausts certainly aren't bad, being neatly detailed with hollowed-out openings - although I did find shallow sink marks on the sample kit. That said, the Brassin replacements really are in a different league, with extra detail from every angle and a more accurate shape for the front two outlets. It's a subtle difference, but hard to miss once you're aware of it.

Eduard provide a neatly illustrated set of instructions that include a Gunze Sangyo paint match.

Conclusion
Eduard's replacement Brassin exhausts are definitely worth considering as an upgrade for their beautiful Spitfire Mk.I. They're more accurate and better detailed, plus they save the minor chore of filling any sink marks. They're simple enough to use to be suitable for modellers at all levels of experience, so they'd make an ideal introduction to working with resin upgrades and, at less than a fiver, they're well priced for resin parts of this quality.

Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AEROSCALE.

I mostly concentrate on WW2 subjects, although I'm also interested in WW1, Golden Age aviation and the early Jet Age - and have even been known to build the occas...
