In-Box Review
T-55C training/haulage conversion

This is a conversion for the Tamiya T-55 kit (kit # 35257). I am a big fan of “Tanks without Turrets” and am always on the lookout for interesting subjects.

This CMK kit #3051 gives you the parts to make both the training and the haulage versions of the T-55.

To do the training version you get a large resin hood-like part that takes the place of the turret. To this you add various kit parts and 2 wire grab handles (which you provide) and the conversion is complete.

For the haulage version, you get a resin ring that fits into the turret opening. The circular turret cover, rectangular hatch (referred to in the instructions as the “rap-door"), clips, hinges and door handles are all photo etch. The hatch may be mounted open or closed.

All the parts appear to be high quality. There is a large pour stub on the resin hood to be removed, but it is a simple cutting job. A small amount of flash on the ring will be easy to remove.

The instructions are well illustrated and all the Tamiya kits parts used in the conversion are labeled with the kit part number.

At $25.00 I feel the price is a bit high, but you do get parts for 2 complete conversions.
I can see no reason why the parts could not be used with any 1/35 scale T-55.
