Hereís a cool version of Mercedes-Benzís Sprinter, a refrigerated distribution vehicle for Eismann foods. It is one of 150 Sprinters currently offered by Herpa.
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a light commercial vehicle, built by Daimler AG of Stuttgart, Germany as a van, chassis cab and minibus, and sold as a Mercedes model, except in the U.S. where it is built from complete knock down (CKD) kits and sold by Freightliner.
The first generation Sprinter was launched in Europe in 1995 to replace the famous but outdated Mercedes-Benz T1 van. The second generation Sprinter was introduced in Europe in 2006. The first generation (VA Chassis) North American Sprinter was launched in 2001 in the U.S., and originally branded as a Freightliner. Units sold to the rest of North America were badged as Mercedes until 2003 when they received Dodge branding.
Eismann Refrigerated Distribution Sprinter
Your refrigerated distribution Sprinter is factory assembled except for the side mirrors. Itís securely packed in a form-fitted tray held inside a carton with display window that opens on the ends. A holographic label proclaims that the model is licensed by Daimler.
The model is skillfully molded and assembled with any blemishes or significant flaws. My sample arrived with a brake light misaligned. Doors, hoods and panels lines are defined with recessed lines, as is the grille. The door handles are raised.
Side view mirrors are boxed attached to their sprue. The model has slots where these are inserted, and it is a simple process.
Detail and Trim
Herpaís interior is almost worth popping the cab off for. Inside are bucket seats, the steering wheel, console, stick shift, dashboard detailing, and door interior details!
The underbody is very well done. It even has a spare tire.
Herpa's tires are soft plastic tires slipped over the plastic rims.
Individual clear and tinted lenses simulate the headlights and tail lights.
Eismann boasts attractive livery and Herpa replicates it in all its glory. The finish is smooth. The appetizing pictures on the side are printed--no decals are used. These images look fine from a normal viewing distance though up close one can see the pattern of the prints.
Off the Lot
This HO scale MB Sprinter an interesting and attractive little model of a modern delivery vehicle. It will fit in any diorama or model railroad, European or American. Recommended.
