Mercedes-Benz SLK Roadster
The SLK is a compact roadster manufactured by Mercedes-Benz in three generations; R170 launched in 1996, the R171 in 2004 and R172 in 2011. In 2000 M-B redesigned the front end. The designation SLK derives from the company's design mission to create a roadster that was at once sporty, light and short ó in German: Sportlich, Leicht und Kurz. SLK features an innovative retractable hardtop roof. Powering and driving the SLK are 2.0 L I4, 2.3 L I4 S/C or 3.2 L V6 engines with automatic or manual 5-speed, or 6-speed manual transmissions.
Kickin' the Tires...
This roadster is factory assembled. Itís securely packed in a form-fitted tray held inside a clear plastic carton with end opening flaps. A red Herpa label decorates the packaging. A holographic Daimler license label adorns the box.
I found no flaws in the molding or assembly. The exterior features fine recessed lines for doors and hoods and panels. Underneath the chassis has basic molded detail. The windshield is free of distortion.
Each of the four wheels has rubber tires with nice tread detail, and detailed hubcaps.
Individual clear lenses simulate the headlights, signal lights and tail lights.
On each door is a factory applied mirror, and the rear view mirror is mounted on the windshield. The windshield wipers are part of the separate black chrome combing around the windshield. The model has cooling louvers in the hood, side panels, and grille.
Herpa molded a detailed interior complete with dash and instruments and console, stick shift, seats, headrests, steering wheel, and more.
Livery and Finish
The model and components are black and silber / silver. The paint is thin, glass-smooth, and opaque. It is also available in rot / red. Mercedes-Benzís logo is stamp painted on the rear and chromed on the grille. Herpa does not use decals.
This Mercedes-Benz SLK is an impressive model with good plastic detail and great finishing. Though it lacks a detailed underbody, the lenses for headlights, signals, and tail lights are impressive. An impressive interior is easy to see. Printing is sharp. Recommended.
