Volkswagen Golf
While VW’s Golf is a small family car sharing components with the Jetta, it has been jazzed up with several choices of peppy powerplants and transmissions. Now in the sixth incarnation of the series, Volkswagen premiered the new convertible in March 2011has added a new sporty feature, a retracting hard top. A Golf isn’t just for going for groceries, it can be a flashy fleet fun return to Fahrvergnügen.

Kicking; the Tires
Herpa’s VW Golf convertible, metallic, is fully assembled and packed in a light plastic form-fitted tray secured in a light plastic box that opens on the ends. I found no flaws in the molding or assembly. The exterior is smooth and shiny and features fine recessed lines for doors and hoods and panels. Its chassis has basic molded detailed, the tires have no tread detail, and the windshield is free of distortion. Each of the four wheels have rubber tires and detailed rims.

Test Drive
Individual clear lenses simulate the headlights and tinted lenses are used for tail lights. An exhaust pipe peaks out from under the rear bumper.

Windshield wipers are part of the black chrome combing around rakishly swept windshield. Separate side view mirrors are factory applied, and a rear view mirror extends from the windshield. Herpa did not neglect the open interior and it looks great with bucket seats, the steering wheel, console, stick shift, and dashboard detailing.

Livery and Finish
The model body has a smooth glossy finish of papillon-silber metallic / papillon-silver metallic; Herpa also offers the convertible Golf in rot / red. Other components are molded in color. Volkswagen’s logo is chromed upon the detailed black chrome grille. Herpa does not use decals. The paint is thin and glass-smooth.

Off the Lot
This VW Golf convertible is an sharp model with fine plastic detail and great finishing. It has lenses for headlights and brake lights, a detailed interior, and rubber tires. If a detailed underside is important to you then you might be disappointed. All the same these models should please modern model railroaders, dioramaists, and collectors. I think you get a lot for the price and recommend the model.

Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - RailRoadModeling.net.
