We will have to make it happen then...

Ive got the torso and hips painted, highlighted and shadowed ...almost satisfied..

Heres a shot to my attempt at lace and nylon...please remember that oils dry with a semi-gloss sheen that can be removed by overspraying with a flat varnish, which I will be doing once Im satisfied with my shading..

good work on the nylons and lace, for first efforts, you are doing ok!

Just a thought, as a figure painter - given the Tamiya flesh is flat finish, wouldn't it make a nice, subtle contrast between flat flesh and a satin finish lace?

It would help add texture to your figure, may add some life to it.

I don't think it would detract from those eyes either, rather it would help emphasize them.

Im very new to this..My comfort level is in armour and aircraft..so I tend to instinctively jump on the dullcote..my only question is how to make clear visual distinction between the satin of her camisole, and the leather of her boots?..or possibly I am complicating things too much?...

just remember, when we look at a figure, we can readily sort out legs, arms and other human dimensions....so for figures, it's generally desirable not flatten to all the texture, it can make a figure "lifeless"


Two ideas present themselves to me....

Leave the boots in a flat black state, with some shading effects for creases and soles. Add interest by a silver buckles and lace holes on the boots.

Or Make the boots a high gloss. with a flat metal silver effect for buckles and lace holes.

Another option may be to just wander around the local shoe stores, looking at ladies boots (or researching online) until you find something that you think fits the figure.

As a rule of thumb, to help figures seem more life like, generally, some kind of textural contrast is needed. If the skin tone has that nice natural sheen (of oil paints) then the clothing is usually matt.

If the skin tone is done in acrylics, then something else is given to the figure to help give it some life.


Figures done in all flat colours run the risk of being... well, lifeless.

So far, your figure has a powerful set of eyes (strong colour, eye catching) and there is a nice contrast between the flesh and the satin clothing effects.

So far I think I will leave the bodice as is and say the fabric is silk. It certainly has the correct sheen for that..I will work on the boots, and her hair tomorrow..

Hi Jamie,
Ive been busy with my new job lately, and other projects have taken priority (unfortunately)..but here is some progress..
I attached her legs to her hips using Epoxy, and allowed them to set.
Her wee lace skirt was painted using Tamiya Smoke, I added some shadows in the folds using an Iwata and Tamiya black..the silk trim was painted in using a fine brush and Lamp Black artist oils..

As you can see I replaced the kit pedestal with a piece of wood.

there was a gap in her torso where it meets her hips, I repaired this using milliput, formed it, and smoothed it in place using a wet brush. after it was dry I painted it in Lamp Black..Ill show pics of the repair later..

Here is her boot. Painted using Lamp Black oil paints, toning was achieved by blending in some Titanium White. Buckles were picked out using oil paint colour"Pewter".
My next step is to add her arms and shoulders. I suspect I will have to blend one of her shoulders more, because during test fit I noticed the tone was a bit different ..

Love the subtle tones of the skirt, plus the shading effects!
Doing in the edges works a treat too......

A suggestion, to add some 'life' to the boots, maybe add some highlights to the buckles, and hasp (the little metal bit that goes through the holes in the belts) on the boots....

My adding these highlights to the metal parts, it would make the figure a little bit more alive.

as for fit issues, yep, got them too.....you are handling yours quite well.....

I ran across a blog by Misato, and he was showing the pitfalls of clear resin. Stripping paint from clear resin is risky at best, as it doesnt hold up well under the process. I found that applying dullcoat frosted it badly.
The way he showed how to do it(and it tied into how I saved the part myself) is to use Future floor wax with a drop of clear paint..whatever colour you are using..
Yes the boots need touching up, specifically in the buckle areas. I suggest the paint was removed by handling of the figure and definitely requires touching up.
I am adding the arms and shoulders now, and this comes with a whole new set of problems..fit based of course, which translates into removal of material, filling with putty, and paint touch up. I have the parts trimmed to shape properly now, and one arm is attached. I will show a sequence of shots on how I handled this after its fixed...

after attaching the arm, I found that there was some fit problems. material was removed on some areas, leaving some raw resin exposed.

It is far easier to "blank out" the area to be repaired with a darker tone, then lighten it gradually..

Here we have sprayed several thin coats of Flesh colour to even it all out..

This pic shows some shipping damage I hadnt noticed..I should probably repair this with some Milliput...bleah..
There was some overspray onto some of the black areas that will need repair, but I expected this..

I am painting the resin piecs of hair now, and have basecoated with lamp black oils. I have seen on Amine the use of blue to portray black hair, so I thought I would try adding some after letting the black sit for 24 hours. What I saw was the black basically absorbed the blue, but it left a slight difference in tone...it is very subtle , but its there. I will fool around with this a bit more before going back and repairing the overspray on the figure.

Im VERY sorry to have basically abandoned this thread guys.....I got caught up in a ship that Im building for a client..it is by far the most complex project Ive ever undertaken... I will take some shots of Morte and post them tomorrow..shes almost done, apart from touch ups......cheers..

Id like to try doing nylons with holes in them..I have an idea for doing that and I wonder if it would work..
