Just had a problem with him this summer. I have used him in the past few years with no problems, and have even had freebies tossed in on occasion.

I ordered a few kits from him on 30 April and received them on 10 May. One kit was an error. I had ordered kit #72215 but received kit #72115 instead. OK, a slip of a number, no problem. Let me contact him and see if we can work this out.

On 16 May, I received an e-mail telling me to send back the kit and he will send the correct kit. I replied the same day asking for a return address.

On 22 May, I received a return address of 21 Storey Dr., Lincoln, MA 01773. I sent the kit via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation on 26 May. The kit was delivered on 30 May 2006.

On 6 June, I sent another e-mail asking if the kit was received. I received a response on 10 June saying that the kit was received and asking me to remind him what kit I needed in return. I responded with the proper kit name and number that same day.

On 7 July, I send another e-mail asking about the status of the kit.

On 10 July, I am told the kit is out of stock and and to chose another. I ask that if it will take another month, to refund my money plus return postage. I am told to select another model. I e-mail my choice reight away.

On 12 July, I am told my substitute choice is out of stock and to chose another. I do so on 13 July. This is the last contact I've had with him.

I would have been better off keeping the first kit. Now I'm out the cost of the kit and return postage. I'm only out $10.90, thankfully my lesson wasn't costly.

I'm sorry that I can't help you directly, but I can offer a few tips on how to proceed with this. If this person has commited the fraud like you say than its a bit more serious than something for the local police dept.
I suggest calling the MA's Attorney General office. They will have a dept that specializes in commercial fraud. Next I suggest contacting your local FBI office. Being that this was conducted across state lines. It falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Gov't. They should be able to help you with this matter.
I think I speak for many if not all of us when I say I appreciate you taking the time to warn us. I hope this person is caught, and with a little luck the money returned.

I wonder how much of this fraud and how much of this is a guy whose business is failing and he is out of money.

I think it would still be fraud if he is collecting funds and not delivering the goods. I was almost going to make an order there last week just to try out some of those cheap kits they advertise. Glad I didnt now. I hope they work this thing out and square up with people.

Update: I e-mail Alanger last night after posting my initial response. I asked for a refund of the cost of the kit plus the return shipping ($10.90). This morning I received a response asking for my PayPal e-mail address and he would send a refund. I will update this thread when and if I get a refund.

I agree he may be selling kits that he does not have on hand yet or else his prices may be too low and he is losing money on every sale. The situation is too bad, I received good service from him in the past and always bought 1/72 PST and ACE kits from him at quite a bargin.

His current eBay feedback is in shambles.

I have no vested interest in the situation so perhaps I should not comment. However, the owner may have gotten himself into a situation where he is now running his business like a pyramid scheme, for whatever reason. He continues to take new orders to get the capital buy product to fill old orders.
I have seen this happen a thousand times over the last 20 years working in manufacturing.

I too had an $84 order with him since early May. After trying to email and call with no success, I finally called my credit card company to have the charge removed. They must have contacted Alanger, because in about four days, my box of merchandise arrived, late July.

I agree with Rob, it is a sad situation. I have been buying kits from them for a couple of years, and have always received good service. Don't know what is going on, but I hope it works out for everyone involved.

Mike

If he moved to Lincoln, then the above address I posted is most likely his home address. Even though he asked for a PayPal address, I still have not received his refund as of 8:00 PM EDT. I'm familiar with the area he now lives in, very rich area. The Air Force Base I lived at before this assignment was located between Bedford and Lincoln (Lincoln ran the base elementary schools but the high schoolers went to Bedford).

I got an email from him today that my package was shipped, so I'll take a wait and see attitude for another week.

hello,
we to have had a problem with this seller ,involving his ebay site, back in jan.'06,our son bid on a T34/85 w/minesweeper,and two sets of T34 (early) tracks, all by Maquette.it took a long time for the package to show up,never did respond to are e-mails asking about this transaction, when the package showed up .only the T34/85 was thier, never did receive the T34 tracks, and no emails where returned.his auction stated that there where 10 sets available, and we where the only ones that had placed a bid.where not talking a hugh $ amount here, but will never/ever do business with him again,i don't care how reasonable his prices may be,so in the end he lost out!!by the way,our payment was sent to Belmont,MA.

note:thiers another dead beat seller on Ebay seller ID is bzzaw ,won eastern express GAZ AAA ,payment sent, item never received,no emails answered ,neg feedback left, done this to others!! Ebay suspended him ,but I saw that it has been lifted.Beware and buy at your own risk.ive still got his full name and address should anyone want it

Update: I received my refund today of $11.82 ($12.48- $.66 fee). It took a little over a week to refund money to me for an order that should have been completed three months ago. While the amount paid is about a dollar more than I figure they owe me, it still makes me hesitant to ever order from them again. As the old saying goes, once bitten, twice shy.

Well, I wish I could report happy news, but I believe I have fallen to the scoundrel also. As a long time customer of Max's, I'm sadden to say, that I still have not received my goods either, even though I was told 10 days ago that they were shipped. A Dog Sled could make it from Belmont MA to NJ in the summer in ten days. I have filed my pay-pal complaint, including this and the other link provided by Robert to Pay-Pal, so they can clearly see that it is just not me, or a one time problem.
I'm afraid that Max has lost a long time customer forever.

Sorry to hear you may be facing similar problems. I still wonder why he sells these kits that he does not have on hand? Mine ended well in the end, perhaps yours will too.

Looks like Alanger is no longer a registered user at eBay: Alanger USA feedback.

Max, just posted this on Hyper Scale FYI

"Dear Friends,

Alanger has been delaying orders and we would really like to make it up to you, we value our customers and Truly appreciate the business, if your order has been delayed, or you know some one who is order we delayed, please have them e-mail us, and on the next order we promise to include some free kits. (We have lots of damaged boxes which we cannot sell, but the plastic and the instruction manual are completely fine) We will decide how many free kits to include according to the size of the order!

Cheers!

Max

I am glad that he's finally standing up and admitting his mistake. He should have let us know that he was having troubles from the start instead of telling folks that the items were shipped. Most of us would have understood and accepted the explanation.

I am still hesitant to order from him again. As the old saying goes, "once bitten, twice shy."

Well, here's the Email I received from Max this morning, a day after my money was refunded by PayPal.

"Dear sir,

I am sorry for taking so long delivering your order. However, could
you please send the funds back to us, [email protected] since the
order has been delivered. If by any chance it has not been delivered
please inform me.

Max"

I afraid that Max is no longer on my "trusted vendor list" Especially since he had plenty of time to respond to my complaint, and request of refund from PayPal, but never responded to either.

I am assuming you never received the order, but he says you did and now wants the money he refund back?
